"Well...the world IS ending..."
Slayer casts a long shadow over anything that could fall within the confines of "extreme" music. But, it is safe to say that there are more than a handful of people that might have no experience with Slayer beyond hearing their name. I thought it might be fun to put together a couple of playlists for the uninitiated. To accomplish that I invited my buddy Tim and author DX Ferris ("33 1/3: Reign in Blood" and "Slayer 66 2/3: A Metal Band Biography") to put together three unique lists.
It is a LONG episode with a lot of side quests, digressions and diversions, but I had a great time doing this one. I hope you feel the same.

I've known guitarist Mike Burns for over 20 years. He's a tireless musician that has been in multiple bands. So, it only made sense to have him on as a guest. "A Metallic KO without the Shirtless Septuagenarian"
In the early 90’s Integrity’s “Those Who Fear Tomorrow” changed the face of hardcore – for better or worse. After that Lp there was a deluge of bands playing a type of hardcore that had less in common with punk and began playing metal with a hardcore aesthetic. Still, many people still called it “hardcore”. However, that’s not an indictment of the quality of the music. Some of these bands (not many) were quite good – regardless of what you called it.
I talk about a few of the less heralded bands playing in this sandbox;
Conviction, Darkside NYC, Starkweather, Bloodlet, Ironside, Splinter, Anguish, Cattlepress, Thoughts of Ionesco, Mayday and Turmoil.

I had the chance to chat with Greg Anderson about a lot of things; basketball, Texas, music and the update to the Half Life pedal collaboration with Earthquaker Devices. It was a fun conversation filled with "new to me" music and more than a little worship in hallowed halls of Asschapel.

Ian and I met when he was the vocalist for hardcore greats Down In Flames. He is the current vocalist for Fright – who have released their debut Lp on guitarist Nate Wilson’s Gloom Records. Shawn Fosnight and I have known each other for over 30 years. We first met as contributors for Crunchface Fanzine. Later, Shawn and I shared a house with friends, he booked my band for a ton of shows and together we attended many, many more. Shawn has always had a deep and abiding love for skateboarding and music. It made made sense to have him on as a guest.

"Wacky Dee and Stabmaster Arson"
Jeff Jingle is a practical effects artist that has worked on Pacific Rim, The Mandalorian, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Captain America: Civil War, Real Steel, Where the Wild Things Are and dozens more. I first met Jeff in the early 90s as the vocalist for the metallic hardcore band Anguish - who released a 7" on Dark Empire Records. 
This is another early episode that was lost while I was attempting to find a new host for the podcast. Jeff is one of my oldest friends and I'd be remiss if I didn't republish this one. Enjoy!

Jason Tarulli is a live audio engineer that has toured with and run front of house sound for Courtney Barnett, The Black Keys, Social Distortion, Jewel and a host of others. I've known Jason for nearly 30 years and we frequently DJ together with our buddy Matt. Jason DJs under the "Really Cool DJ" alias as well, spinning rare soul, garage rock and other obscure gems.
This raw audion for this one was recorded three years ago and thought to be lost before I had a chance to publish episode. Fortunately, it turned up for me to share here. Check it out.

"Chris Worm"
This is one from the vaults. Prior to me losing access to my original server, I had a TON of episode and this is one of the earliest.
I've known Chris since 1990(?) from my days with Crunchface Fanzine and his time in Ringworm, but more importantly, Windpipe. Windpipe are far and away my favorite Cleveland hardcore band inspite of their low profile as it relates to their short life and the fact that they never had a proper release. There IS a 7" out there and I'm glad it exists, but it doesn't properly represent how much they truly ripped. In any case, I've been meaning to report this one for a minute and here it is...Again, it is a really early episode so the sound quality might be a bit rough.
