Bleachmouth Postscript
The Postscript features rambling, off-the-cuff discussions with friends, musicians, writers and artists of all types about 5 records (or songs) they love. You’ll hear some hot and not-so-hot takes, as well as strongly held opinions and harsh criticisms. You’ll also hear much milder opinions along with facts and factual errors of all kinds. But hey, it is all about having fun conversations, as well as discovering new music and old gems, hidden or otherwise.

Episode 87: Right Hand Hardcore
Thursday Nov 07, 2024
Thursday Nov 07, 2024
"Right Hand Hardcore"
I was feeling a bit nostalgic recently and decided to talk with my buddy Rich Miles and Chicago Will about music from the 1990s. What were we listening to? Does it hold up? How did it shape our listening habits? Why did Dylan ultimately pick Brenda over Kelly? Or did he?
Some of things we gab on and on about; Winter, Day of Suffering, Ressurection, Failure Face, Bloodlet, Out Cold, Rorshach and a lot more!

Episode 86: I Know What You Listened to Last Summer
Thursday Aug 29, 2024
Thursday Aug 29, 2024
"Rich Miles und Der Ring des Nibelungen"
As I grow older, summers seem to go by much more quickly than they did when I was young. I doubt I am the only one experiencing this phenomenon. A brief (and busy) this past summer was, I still managed to see a show or two and get some new records. I thought it would be fun to cap off the season by talking with my dude, Rich Miles about some of the music that has caught our ears. Most of it is new (to us, at least), but revisited some old favorites as well.
Some of things we gab on and on about; Nausea, Chaka Khan, Rufus, Ray Parker Jr., Huey Lewis, Iabhorher, Canal Irreal, Cattlepress, Voivod, Minority Threat, Durand Jones & the Indications, Bizzaros, Devo, Wesley Bright and the Honey Tones, No Exceptions, Body Farm, Dry Socket, Faucheuse, Bombardment, Vacant State, Roky Erickson and our Blind Rage Weekend.

Episode 85: 80s Metal Draft
Saturday Jul 27, 2024
Saturday Jul 27, 2024
"Martin Ain's Frilly Shirt"
Finally!
That BRAND SPANKING NEW EPISODE that I have been holding over your heads, like an audio Sword of Damocles has dropped. It is nice to be back talking music with friends and MAN there is a lot of talk this episode!
I'm joined by Tim Shauver (Shotgun Sodomy), Marc Sabo (Orion's Sword and the Excised/Anatomised podcast), as well as my old buddy Rich Miles.
On this episode we are talking 80s metal. What bands do we think folks should be looking to in lieu of "The Big Four"? We answer that very question in the form of a "draft".
It was a fun exercise and a good conversation - even if I railroad everyone. What can I say? It has been a long time since I've recorded.
In any case, there are going to be some slight changes to podcast that you will notice in future episodes. Hopefully for the better!
In the meantime, enjoy this much-longer-than-intended-episode.
Thanks for checking in!

Episode 40: Five and Change "NYHC"
Tuesday Jan 23, 2024
Tuesday Jan 23, 2024
I have a love/hate relationship with New York Hardcore. The stuff I love – I love A LOT. The stuff I loathe… Well, let’s just focus on the stuff I love. On this mini-episode I ramble on about arguably the most widely known and influential “scene” spawned by hardcore-punk. This certainly isn’t a historical review – just some random thoughts on some well covered ground. If you’re a new to this strain of hardcore – this is a good primer (subjectively). If you have a good handle on it, listen anyway and send me hate mail after.

Episode 43: Eric Starr (Arkham Tattoo/Riptide Suicide/DIM), Part 1
Tuesday Jan 23, 2024
Tuesday Jan 23, 2024
"Ugh, Ough, Owwwwwwwww"
Eric Starr is the former guitarist of hardcore-punk band D.I.M and currently of Riptide Suicide. He is also the owner of Arkham Tattoo, located in Akron. I’ve known Eric for a really, really long time now and always enjoy hanging out with him. We cover a ton of ground – partly because we don’t get to see each other much – partly because of my verbosity. This conversation was recorded while Eric was working on a piece for me.
Some of things we gab on and on about; Sade, Hank Williams Sr., The Weirdos, Circus of Power, Bathory, Dark Angel, Discharge, Death Angel, Slayer, Hellhammer, Waylon Jennings, The Meters, the films Frakenstein Conquers the World and The Mysterians, Horror film hosts The Ghoul and Superhost, High on Fire, and a TON of Celtic Frost.
This is part 1 of 2.

Episode 39: The Danzig Ambush
Tuesday Jan 09, 2024
Tuesday Jan 09, 2024
It’s an AMBUSH!!! But, it’s also Halloween so we’re talkin’ Danzig. But in the spirit of the season, TRICKS not treats, and jump scares. I’ve attacked several of my unknowing friends with a question; Of Danzig’s three biggest projects (Danzig, Samhain and Misfits), what are the 3 best songs?
I ambushed Chris Wyatt (co-host Nickel City Soundtrack), Dave Neeson (writer/artist of Gorgonessa, guitarist of Harriet the Spy), Brittany Nader (producer/co-host of WKSU’s Shuffle), Mike Thorn (Razor Blades & Aspirin), Rich Miles (co-host of Nothing Better to Do, bassist Constatine Sakathi), Bob Shedd (co-host In Search of Tracks and Axe to Grind), Jenn Kidd (Executive Director of The Nightlight Theater), Erick Eagol (co-host of Keeping it 99), and most IMPORTANTLY, Pete Hilton (co-host of In Search of Tracks). Pete has gone on record as saying that The Misfits are NOT a Halloween band. Of course, Pete is entitled to his entirely wrong opinion.

Episode 19: Jon Vinson (Frayle/ex-Axioma/Persistent Aggressor), Part 1
Tuesday Jan 09, 2024
Tuesday Jan 09, 2024
"Djent-the dumbest name for a genre...ever"
Jon Vinson is a busy guy. At the time of this interview, not only was he the drummer for Axioma, Six Kills Nine, occasionally for Child Bite, Jesus Egg and Persistent Aggressor. But, I think things have slowed down a bit and he currently sits on the throne for Frayle. Jon is also a drum instructor and an insane marathon runner. Jon is incredibly talented which explains why he is in such demand. He was kind enough to sit and chat with me a bit about his favorite records and drummers. We go into the weeds a bit about drumming in general and cover a ton of ground musically.
Here are some of the artists we talk about; Pistols at Dawn, Deep Purple, Under Attack, Klaus Nomi, Captain Beefheart, Limp Wrist, Coinmonster, Alice Cooper, Biohazard, Yes, Burnt by the Sun, Sarah Thawer, Dark Angel, Morbid Angel, Nasum and Meshuggah.

Rich Miles was the bassist for Constatine Sakathi and former the co-host of “Nothing Better to Do” as well as “I’m Not Acutually a Gas Station Attendant” podcast. We discuss the merits of Kiss as well as Alice Cooper and robots. Rich has become quite a good friend and this conversation reflects on of the many drive time "core talks" we have almost daily.
Some of the artists/bands we get philosophical about;
Alice Cooper, Antioch Arrow, Carnivore, Close Call, Dropdead, Integrity, Metallica, King Diamond, Kiss, Sick of it All, Verbal Assault Token Entry and Sick of it All.

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
"Zippy's Maddest Stories Ever Told"
I had the pleasure to chatting with Blaine Cook – one of the most distinct vocalists in hardcore (crossover, etc.). Whether it is with The Fartz, Toe Tag or The Accused, Blaine’s voice is unmistakable and utterly unique. The Accused played a significant part in my musical journey and I had a lot of fun talking with Blaine about some of his favorite records!

Mark Smith is the drummer for Dutch Babies and Tufted Puffins. He is also a NOTORIOUIS trouble maker. I’ve known Mark for over 30 years and without his technical expertise The Post Script would not have existed! This is another long, LONG delayed episode that I was more than happy to complete and I had a great time doing it!
Here’s some of the bands that provide the soundtrack to the epic tales told in this episode;
The Who, Rollins Band, Rush, The Jam, Dutch Babies, The Stooges, X, Zen Luv Assassins, Television and Misfits.

"David Copperfield, Doug Henning or Gandalf"
DX Ferris is a native of Pittsburgh and Akron based author that covered local and national music in Scene magazine. He has had work published in Rolling Stone, Decibel, AV Club and The Village Voice. Ferris is also the author of Good Advice from Good Fellas, Good Advice from Professional Wrestling and his regular comic strip Suburban Metal Dad. Additionally he authored an extensive biography about Pittsburgh legend Donnie Iris and the Cruisers as well as the 331/3 edition that covered the making of Reign in Blood. Plus, he wrote the in depth biography "Slayer: 66 2/3: The Jeff & Dave Years". And if that weren't enough, Ferris has a podcast called "Talkin' Slayer". I always love it when we get a chance to hang out – even if it is virtually. We had a great conversation about a ton of stuff! Enjoy!
Here’s some of what we cover;
Public Enemy, 3rd Bass, Fistula, Grief, DRI, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, DEVO, Whitesnake, Slayer and Eric B. & Rakim.

"Things can only get better"
Mikey is one of my favorite people. As bandmates in Persistent Aggressor we would often talk music before (during) and after practice at length – it was always a good time. So it only made sense to have him on! Warning. For those of you with sensitive souls that can’t handle real talk about pay-to-play veunues/shows and shitty promoters that make bands sell tickets – this episode is not for you. You can listen if you want, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
What else do we ramble on about?Repulsion, Trap Them, Killswitch Engage and Howard Jones, Heartsounds, Carcass, Nasum, Morbid Angel, Bloodthirsty Butchers, Metallica and lots more!

Kiss, The Seeds, King Kahn and the BBQ Show, Buck Owens, The Dirtbombs, Uncle Scratch’s Gospel Revival, Redd Kross, Jay Reatard and Kim Fowley.

This is Part 2 of my conversation with my buddy Matt Sorg. We talk about a lot of music, but go deep on Alice Cooper and Voivod as well as Metallica, Mercyful Fate and of course KISS. It’s a fun and long conversation that was way overdue!
Since the release of this episode, Ringworm has released a new album on Nuclear Blast, titled "Seeing Through Fire". It is a great record and is further proof of my assertion that Ringworm is the most consistently great band from Cleveland.
